Calendar of Activities
Flyers will be distributed prior to each event with details. It's a wonderful way to socialize with your neighbors!!
DCFW NEEDS YOU!!!
The DCFW Activities Committee plans a variety of events for our community throughout the year. Last year, we added a Movie Night, Halloween Party, Wine Tasting, Ice Cream Party and National Night Out Block Party.
Help is always needed in preparation for the events, so if you are interested in assisting please contact Social Committee Chairs Nicolien Eckelboom and Julie Erickson.

DCFW Chili Cook-off
Sunday, January 29th, 2012
3:30 - 5:30pm
It’s that time of year again. Please come For The Annual D.C.F.W. Chili Cook-off at the home of Sally and Kenneth Abele (1523 Summerset Drive).
Bring your best chili (and enough to share) in a crock pot, along with any “fixings” you’d like to enhance your recipe. Everyone will taste each other’s chili, and vote to decide which is the most unusual, spiciest, and best-all-around. We’ll provide the drinks (no BYOB!), salad, cornbread, sweets, paper goods, and prizes for the winners.
Please send a check, made payable to D.C.F.W., to the above address, for $5 per person, to cover the party’s expenses. Thank you…we hope you’ll come!
DCFW Progressive Dinner
Saturday, February 25th
SAVE THE DATE!
This year’s DCFW Progressive Dinner will be held on Saturday, February 25th. We would love everyone to join us for this fabulous annual event. Good food and a good time will be had by all! Spend time with both new and long-time neighbors.
We will meet together at one house for appetizers, break into smaller groups at multiple houses for the main course and then reconvene for dessert at the end of the evening.
We are just forming this year’s committee to select the theme and menu. We would love your input. If you would like to volunteer for this event (either for the committee or as a host home), please contact:

I hope you all had as much fun as we did on Saturday night. Thank you especially to our hosts (the Andersons for appetizers, the Dangs, the Eckelbooms, the Hammonds and the Jennings for dinner, and the Stones for dessert). We could not have pulled this off without the fabulous group effort by everyone. I heard nothing but fun times at each house.
What a great way for us to get to know our neighbors better. The hair, chains, scarves and go-go boots were all fabulous. Thanks for getting in the spirit of the evening. This may be hard to top next year, but we’ll have to try! Take care and thanks for making this the best neighborhood to live in!

January 30th, 2011
A great time was had by all, as usual, at the Annual DCFW Chili Cook-off held at the Abeles' house Sunday afternoon, January 30th, 2011! With 30 of our DCFW friends, we enjoyed dips, chips, salad, desserts, wine, beer, and, of course, chili! The best part (besides tasting all the wonderful chili recipes) was visiting with neighbors old and new!
This year, for our 2011 cook-off, our winners were Dennis Kim for the Best Overall category, with his "Keep the Bathroom Fan On" chili; Most Original chili was the "Chili Con Trace Loco Pollo" from Deanna and Jim Anderson; and the Spiciest award went to Lindsay and Mike Malenke, with their "Smoked Brisket Chili". Each winner was awarded movie passes...so a date night is sure to be coming soon!
Kenneth and Sally Abele would like to thank everyone for their coming and participation (for all those who brought chili and other goodies)! We look forward to next year's chili party

Australia ... What's the Difference?
May 1st, 2010
The wine tasting went off without a hitch, luckily. It was touch and go for a while there due to the weather. The Kentucky Derby race added a touch of exhilaration as Super Saver won the day. The social mixer of appetizers and sparkling wine provided plenty of opportunities for neighbors to mingle and get in the mood for the serious business of wine tasting.
Overall, the contrast of South Africa and Australia came down to terroir and their use of oak. We had 6 whites and 5 reds in the tasting. I took a few notes to share (see the website Wine Corner). If they are helpful, great. The reality is that this gave everyone the chance to try wines in a very friendly and unintimidating atmosphere. All wines were under $15 and locally sourced from retailers close by to home.
If anyone remembers additional notes, please pass them along. The last point to remember is that if you enjoyed the wine, it does not matter as much the price or opinions of experts. Drink and enjoy with the fellowship of others. Thanks to all for a very fun evening. - Spring Egg Hunt 2010

Kudos to Peggi Stone, Robin Zussman, and Deanna Anderson for orchestrating the wildly successful DCFW Progressive Dinner Party.
Neighbors gathered for "A Taste of Sunny Spain" at the homes of our gracious hosts: Chrissa and Gary Hammond, Melissa and Derek Hummel, Elizabeth and Hoang Dang, Sandra Salem and Mark Mandeville, Jean and Gregg Brummer, and Michelle and Jon Spitz.
Guests enjoyed a Spanish Feast including Ceviche, Chicken and Shrimp Barcelona, Gazpacho, Tres Leches Cake, Dulce de Leche, and Sangria.

Old World vs. New World. - Spring Egg Hunt
March 29th, 2009
Unseasonably chilly temperatures did not deter the children of DCFW from zealously hunting for treat-filled eggs at the Annual Spring Egg Hunt on Sunday, March 29th. Christine and Stephen Bye graciously opened their home and surrendered their yard for the afternoon as families gathered for the annual event.
After collecting their eggs, the children ran inside to warm up and unveil their treasures while the adults mingled over cocktails and munchies. Many thanks to the Bye family for inviting all the mud-laden little ones and their grown-up counterparts into their lovely home.
