DCFW Board Nominations
February 11, 2012
In an effort to find talent and increase neighborhood involvement, the DCFW Board has decided to solicit nominations for every board position this year. During this open nomination, we encourage all neighbors to nominate someone that they think would be ideal for each of the positions. Know someone with a hidden talent? Here’s a chance to get them into the right position to shine.
Nominate as many people for an many positions as you would like, using the form that you received in the mail. If you did not receive a form or have misplaced it, you can download a copy here. Descriptions of the positions are available here. The current board members are listed on the Board Page.
Nomination forms are due March 31st and can be turned in along with dues payments or dropped off for Julia LeDoyen (DCFW Board Secretary) at 5438 Ralston Court.
Some frequently asked questions are answered below.
Q: Will the nominee be forced to serve in the position that I nominate them for?
A: No, each nominee will be contacted to ensure that they are actually interested in the position.
Q: Can I nominate myself?
A: Absolutely! That is a great way to ensure that the nominee is actually interested in the position.
Q. Can I nominate multiple people for the same position?
A: Yes, especially if you aren’t sure if they will accept the nomination.
Q: What happens if multiple people are nominated and are interested?
A: That will largely be up to the people nominated. For some positions (e.g. the social committee), there can be co-chairs. For other positions, we may need to have a neighborhood election. Too many volunteers would be a terrific problem to have to solve.
Q: How long does someone need to commit to being in a position?
A: At least a year, unless the nominee themselves finds a suitable replacement.
Q: Is there a list of the current board members available?
A: The website (http://www.DCFW.net) has an updated list of all of the current board members.
Q: Will the nominee know that I am the one that nominated them?
A: No, all nominations are treated as confidential and anonymous.
DCFW Dues, 2012
February 11, 2012
It's time to pay the annual membership dues for 2012.
Last year, membership dues helped pay for the following:
- 68% went to maintenance costs for the neighborhood entrance (this includes repairs needed to the sprinkler system and spotlight)
- 9% went to various social events (primarily the annual newcomers event to welcome our newest neighbors)
- 7% went to the power, water and tax bills associated with the front entrance
- 16% went to general & administrative costs, including the directory and website hosting
Your support is needed again this year to help keep our neighborhood one of the best places to live in Atlanta! With your support in 2012, you will see much needed improvement to the front entrance with our newly hired landscape maintenance crew.
Annual dues are $45 per address. However, if you pay by March 31, you will get the discounted rate of $40. We will again collect $10 for the holiday luminaries at the same time as the dues. We received favorable responses for collecting them early.
Please make check payable to DCFW. If you did not receive a form in your mail or have misplaced your form, you can download a copy here. Return the form with check and nomination form (see above) in the attached envelope and mail or place in Michele & Tom Williams’ mailbox at 5429 Ralston Ct.
Thank you for your participation!

Neighborhood Sympathies for the Deas Family
January 14, 2012
DCFW Neighbors,
Our neighbor Jeff Deas lost his Mother this past Monday. She was in rehab following a successful back surgery when she suddenly felt ill and died soon after. It was quite a shock to Jeff and Chris because she had done so well following the surgery.
They will have a memorial service for Frances on Sunday at 3 PM at the Assisted Living Home where she was living. Campbell Stone is just outside of I-285 on Roswell Road. I know you join me in expressing our sympathies at the loss of his Mother.
Click here for the link to the obituary for Frances Deas.
(Thank you to Jerry Rhea for passing along the information and writing this message.)

Condolences to the Elmore Family
October 20, 2011
Our neighbor, David Elmore of Biddle Court, passed away early Wednesday morning. He had been hospitalized for about a month before his death.
The family will have a visitation on Friday (tomorrow) from 3 PM till 6 PM at Patterson's Funeral Home on Allen Drive in Sandy Springs. The site is just in back of Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, just off Roswell Road; and just north of 285.
David’s obituary is in the AJC this morning and copied below. You can visit and sign the on-line guest book at ajc.com.
Emailer updates
August 17, 2011
As you may have noticed, we have had some troubles with the neighborhood email lists. Earthlink “upgraded” our account and lost all of the mail lists, so they have been re-created from scratch from the directory. If you are receiving messages on an email account that you want removed from distribution, please respond to Scott Wilkinson at scottw@dcfw.net to have your email address removed.
The Neighborhood Watch lists have also had to be re-created. Please contact your neighborhood watch area coordinator or Elizabeth Dang (eparra33@hotmail.com) if you have not been receiving recent updates on incidents in and around our neighborhood.
In the upgrade, Earthlink added a protective filter to the mail lists so that only someone on a list can mail to the list. This is a protection against spam, as someone who finds our mailing list master addresses cannot use them to send messages to the neighborhood. It also means that, at least for now, our webmaster (Scott) is the only one who can send a message to everyone in the neighborhood. You’ll have to read the message to find out who it is really from.
The “upgrade” has also meant that the website has languished for a month or so (with the exception of the Neighborhood Watch Latest News Page, which updates dynamically). Check the website soon for multiple updates, including calendar updates and photos from recent neighborhood events.

Curb Painting
August 17, 2011
From Sally Abele:
Hello Mrs. Abele,
I appreciate you offering to help me spread the word about my new business and the service I'm providing to the community. As you know I'm doing this because my next door neighbor died in her house fire last year. The firemen said that her house was poorly marked and that is the reason that they could not find the house very easily. I hear this and then I notice that the rest of Dunwoody is full of poorly marked homes. I hope that my business will help solve this problem in the community and help the policemen and firemen save lives. As you know, I charge $20 per sign and $30 for two. Your neighbors can contact me by emailing me at tjbrooks3@yahoo.com or they can call me at 404-409-8310. Again I really appreciate your help and support with my business.
Thank you very much.

Cuffed for a Cause
July 11, 2011
From the Dunwoody Police Department:
Chief Billy Grogan and several officers from the Dunwoody Police Department will be participating in “Cuffed for a Cause” at Wal-Mart located at 4725 Ashford Dunwoody Rd this Saturday (July 9th) from 9:00 AM-1:00PM. In support of Special Olympics Georgia, the officers will walk or run while handcuffed to a treadmill at the entrance of the store. This event will raise money for the athletes that will be competing this year.
The Dunwoody Police will also have special equipment on display. This would be a great opportunity for the citizens of Dunwoody to interact with members of the department and also have their photograph or children’s photograph taken with a Dunwoody Police Officer.
Special Olympics Georgia (SOGA)
SOGA provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for nearly 23,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills, and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. For more information visit www.SpecialOlympicsGA.org.
Please stop by and say hello.
Tax News
July 11, 2011
From Gail Jones:
It is summer and everyone is busy but hopefully you have not overlooked the news about the coming increase in your property taxes. Dunwoody Crier, June 29......
DeKalb County has tentatively adopted a tax increase of 4.5 mills. Residence of Dunwoody will receive the highest increase among the cities in DeKalb, 15.55 % Elaine Boyer says "homeowners who have not received a decrease in their assessments will pay 45% more".
There will be a public hearing on July 12 at 10am at the Maloof Auditorium in Decatur. The commission is scheduled to vote on the budget on July 12th.
You have until July 11 to appeal your assessment in writing or on line. Our voices must be heard!!! Please attend the meeting and consider appealing.
It is easy and quick to dispute your property appraisal before the tax bills come out. There have been over 7,000 foreclosures in Dekalb County since January 1, 2011, which affects all of us. John Adams, the noted real estate adviser (920 radio) says that houses in Dekalb should be reduced in value by 20% to 25% for this year. That will help us all considering the property tax increase that the Dekalb CEO is seeking.
Dispute your appraisal value at this address: http://web.co.dekalb.ga.us/PropertyAppraisal/appeal.html
DCFW Guy’s Poker Night

Welcome DCFW's Newest Neighbor
July 11, 2011
Hi Neighbors!
Great News! Our new neighbors, Meghan and David Harrison (5397 Mt. Vernon Way), had a baby boy, David Harrison Jr. He was born on Friday, June 24th at 3:33pm, 8lb, 11oz, 21 inches. Meghan and David also have another boy, Timothy (15 months).
Please welcome our newest addition by going to http://www.dcfw.net/board/helping_hands.html and sign up to take the Harrisons a meal. Those of us who have had meals brought to us before, know what a HUGE help it is and how nice it is to have a meal brought to you and not to have to think about planning and making dinner while caring for a newborn and a toddler!
The Harrisons do not have any allergies and usually eat between 6 and 7. Please call Meghan's cell at 404-803-7423 or shoot her an email at meghan.c.harrison@gmail.com to let her know when you will be coming. Again, their address is 5397 Mt. Vernon Way.
Thanks again for making DCFW such a wonderful neighborhood!

Vanderlyn Kindergarten Roundup
February 28, 2011
Dear Rising Kindergarten Parents,
Vanderlyn will be hosting its Kindergarten Round-up on Thursday, April 14, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. During the morning session you can bring your rising Kindergartener to visit one of our Kindergarten classrooms. This is a great opportunity for your child to see what happens in the classroom.
It is very important for you to come to the Kindergarten Round-up. This opportunity to register early gives our Administrators an idea of how many students will be attending Vanderlyn in the fall. This is extremely helpful for planning purposes. In addition, your child will get to visit during the morning session which will make the transition to Kindergarten smoother.
Please bring your child's birth certificate, proof of residency (utility bill, lease or deed) and a photo identification. We look forward to seeing you!
Boy Scout Troop 764 Annual Pine Straw Fundraiser!
February 15, 2011
Do you need fresh, clean pine straw for your landscape? Let Boy Scout Troop 764 deliver it to your door!
Boy Scout Troop 764 is currently accepting orders for pine straw as part of an annual fundraiser. The pine straw bales are full-sized, clean, machine packed and only cost $4 per bale. There is 15 bale minimum per order and the straw is DELIVERED TO YOUR DOOR. That's the same price as Home Depot or Lowes and you don't have to clean pine straw out of your trunk for 2 years! The fundraiser helps Troop 764 maintain the Scout hut at St. Luke's Presbyterian Church, and helps fund scouting activities throughout the year. Last year, a portion of the proceeds from the pine straw fundraiser were donated to the City of Dunwoody, providing a life-saving AED for one of our city's patrol cars (click here for details).
Orders can be placed by completing the attached order form OR by contacting Graham Owings via e-mail grahamowings@yahoo.com. Please support Troop 764 and our community by ordering your pine straw TODAY!
DCFW Board Meeting
January 23, 2011
This Tuesday, January 25th, at 7:30pm, your DCFW Board will be meeting to discuss various activities and plans for 2011. All neighbors are welcomed to drop by to listen and participate. We would love your ideas and thoughts.
Please confirm for a rough headcount with Scott Wilkinson (scottw@wilkinsons.com), our webmaster, who is hosting our Board Meeting this time.
Finally, we are always looking for neighbors who have the enthusiasm and energy to give our neighborhood a little boost with some volunteerism in a few of our activities. Even if you can’t attend, please let us know if and how you would like to get involved.
Vanderlyn Coffee for Redistricting Discussion
January 23, 2011
For those in the neighborhood who are interested in the school redistricting issues, Vanderlyn is hosting coffee on Tuesday morning. Redistricting affects everyone, even those without children in the public schools, through our property values. This is a chance to ask questions and learn about options.
UPDATE: NEW TIME AND PLACE
Due to overwhelming response, the morning coffee has been moved to
Dunwoody Baptist Church, Building G and another meeting has been
scheduled for Tuesday evening from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at Vanderlyn.
"The purpose of this meeting: To work together as a Community. To present and discuss ideas. Nothing at this point is set in stone. There is no "plan". Every option available needs to be reviewed and discussed. This includes options that have not been presented to the community that you may have. To provide a constructive conversation among all of us. We are after all, neighbors and friends."

Dekalb County Schools' redistricting plans
January 8, 2011
For those with children in the public elementary schools, you may already know that Dekalb County has published their redistricting plans. In one of the plans, our neighborhood will be moved to Austin Elementary, and in the other we stay at Vanderlyn. In both options, Dunwoody Elementary turns into a K-5 traditional elementary school.
For more information, please see http://www.dekalb.k12.ga.us/redistricting.
The two maps are at (centralized) http://www.dekalb.k12.ga.us/www/documents/redistricting/attendance-areas-centralized-elementary-schools-map.pdf and (decentralized) http://www.dekalb.k12.ga.us/www/documents/redistricting/attendance-areas-decentralized-elementary-schools-map.pdf.
Neighbor Jeffrey Rosenberg of 1548 Biddle Ct. has organized a petition arguing against redistricting for anyone interested. He needs signatures by Monday evening. If you have not received his email, please contact him at jrosenberg@goodmancompany.com for more information.

The Dunwoody Nature Center is in the process of developing long range goals for the Center to meet the needs of our community.
Please take a few minutes before August 10th to provide us valuable information on your knowledge and experience with Dunwoody Nature Center located in Dunwoody Park. This information will help the center plan for the future in serving the local community with nature/environmental education.
Please take the survey even if you have not visited DNC - you can get through the survey quickly. Also, we encourage you to forward the survey to your Dunwoody friends and neighbors. They are trying to gather as much input as possible.

Volunteers and Board Members Needed for 2010/2011
July 20, 2010
Volunteer positions in DCFW tend to generally follow the school year. And, with another start of a school year approaching, there are some vital positions opening on the DCFW Board.
Welcoming Committee Chair: Tracey Jennings has done a fabulous job at making positive first impressions with our new neighbors and is ready to hand off a well-oiled machine to a new Welcoming Committee Chair. (The name has been changed from the "Sunshine Committee" to reduce confusion.) This neighborhood position does not require a lot of work every month, but is one of the more important and visible positions for new neighbors. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Tracey at jenningsfam@att.net.
Neighborhood Watch Coordinator: For those who have not heard, Santa Ono has accepted an offer too good to refuse from the University of Cincinnati and the Yip/Ono family will be leaving us at the end of the summer. Wendy has done an incredible job coordinating our neighborhood watch, and her shoes will be very hard to fill. The position of Neighborhood Watch Coordinator involves mostly email filtering and forwarding and ensuring that the area coordinators have all of the information that they need. Wendy has also established a rapport with the Dunwoody Police Department that will be hugely beneficial to our neighborhood in the future. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Wendy Yip at gwendolynyip@netscape.net.
Social Committee Chair: Anyone who has attended any of the neighborhood social events, from block parties to newcomer dinners to egg hunts for the kids, knows what a great job Michelle Spitz has done as our Social Committee Chair. Due to growing responsibilities from her new business (congratulations), Michelle will be handing off chairmanship of this committee to someone new. The social committee is the most active neighborhood committee, with different volunteers generally heading the individual events. The Social Committee Chair is responsible for coordinating those volunteers and representing the committee on the neighborhood board. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Michelle Spitz at mspitz@bellsouth.net.
Helping Hands Committee Chair: When events occur that can be overwhelming - from the birth of a child to the death of a family member - your neighborhood steps up to lend a hand. As the chair of the Helping Hands Committee, Jean Brummer has been leading this effort and coordinating volunteers. She is ready to hand off her well-oiled machine to a new committee chair. This position is not always visible until you need it, and then it can become the most important function of our community. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Jean Brummer at gbrummer@bellsouth.net.
Our New DCFW Treasurer
July 20, 2010
After several years of stellar service, Kenneth Abele is handing over the DCFW Treasurer's checkbook to Michele Williams. Under Kenneth's guidance, the neighborhood has remained in the black without any change in neighborhood dues. At least that's what he claims. We haven't performed the post-transfer audit yet.
Thanks to Michele for taking over. Dues checks can still be delivered to Kenneth's mailbox until we get all of the paperwork transferred over.

Found Dog
May 31, 2010
A small male beagle was found on our front steps about 11:45pm Saturday night. No collar. No noticeable ID. The dog is currently being fostered by our neighbor the Knowles (1588 Withmere Way). We and the Knowles are still seeking the owner of this pet. Friendly and well feed. I have driven all the adjacent sub-divisions looking for any "Lost Dog" sign postings. Nothing, nada. Any help locating this pet's family is appreciated.

A message from the de Witt family, our Chilean DCFW neighbors
March 9, 2010
Good morning
The earthquake and Tsunami that occurred in Chile has caused a huge impact in many people and in the country and there already more than 2 million homeless that need desperately all possible help.
As days go by we are getting to know how vast and deep the destruction was. The highways are destroyed, there are important bridges in the floor, Talcahuano (the most important port of the country) is now a vast amount of debris, there even are ships in the streets in the middle of the city. People are working day and night trying to start the country again, but they need help.
We are trying to help as much as possible and I would like to ask if it is possible to pass along to the community the attached letter. This is a joint effort of the Chilean consulate in Atlanta, Prochile and the Chilean Chamber of Commerce of the South ( www.caccsouth.com ) to raise funds for the earthquake relief. The funds are going directly to serious organizations that have the capacity to get where the help is really needed.
We appreciate your support
Thank you very much

Dunwoody Art Festival Volunteers Needed
February 9, 2010
Hi neighbors,
The inaugural Dunwoody Art Festival will take place Mother’s Day weekend this year, which is May 8-9, 2010. This promises to be a great event for the entire family – and one that will shine a spotlight on Dunwoody. The event can’t happen without the support of volunteers, so the Festival organizers are looking for community residents who’d like to donate a few hours of their time over the course of the weekend.
Would you please forward the attached flyer to your neighborhood list so we can spread the word?![]()
Thank you,

Community Meeting Tonight (From the Dunwoody Chamber of Commerce)
October 29, 2009
The following is a flier for the Community meeting this coming Thursday October 29th at City Hall. Community meetings are group discussions of the elements that will go into the Comprehensive Land Use Plan for Dunwoody. The Land Use Plan is a look ahead 25 years and what we want Dunwoody to be. There have been five meetings prior to this one and frankly they have not been well attended. Attendance and input is critical to the validity of the plan. It will have to stand the test of time while reflecting what the citizens want Dunwoody to be.
There will be five more meetings, one each on the key commercial areas, one on Transportation and one on the residential land areas. Then there will be a series of public hearings. It is important that there is participation in the community meetings to allow the plan to be constructed correctly - changing it in the public hearing phase is ok but we need to start with something close to the community's wishes.
The meeting Thursday is on the Perimeter area and will begin with a presentation by the PerimeterCID staff on their current plans both short and long term. Actually that would be worth attendingin itself but then where will be open forum on what the attendees want to see happen. Well worth a two hour investment.
Please do attend.

Post storm check-up for those homes abutting a creek or water
October 29, 2009
If you live along a creek or water, you need to check for debris and soil erosion/land fallen into the creek bed. If land erosion is severe, call the City of Dunwoody Roads Dept. They will inspect and if approved, will order you rock from DeKalb County to backfill.
The rock will be delivered by truck and dumped at the front of your property. (Do not have them dump on your driveway which would crack.) The rock is free; however, the homeowner has to pay for the installation through an independent contractor of their choice. You are allowed to order the rock once, so make sure you have the correct amount. The homeowner will have to pay for additional if not enough rock ordered.
Make sure the contractor knows what he is doing, that he has references and experience stacking the rock. Have him measure for the correct amount of rock with a bit of an overage since the rock needs to be stacked/terraced or it will fall into the creek with high water.
Have multiple copies of your land survey available when getting estimates. Best choice is to build a seawall, which is expensive. Also, clear any construction with the county especially if you build a seawall.
Downed trees and debris will also need to be removed to prevent water backup/flooding. City of Dunwoody might help with this, too.
Secondly, check for tree damage. Many trees have lost footing due to soil erosion. They may have the potential to fall either onto your house or your neighbors. Make sure you have a licensed arborist (and make them prove it) to check your trees health. If you do need to take the tree down, cut at ground level leaving the root structure intact to preserve existing soil supporting your wall.

Play Date Friday, October 9
October 7, 2009
From Nicolien Eckelboom
Hi Guys,
Looking at my planner I see all 3 kids (6,4,2) have no school this Friday. We are not going anywhere and will be playing outside in the cul-de-sac in front of our house.
Who wants to join us Friday afternoon from 2 PM (to ?) with bikes, scooters, playing in big pile of beach sand (with buckets), balls, roller skates, etc.? Bring any kind of toys and bikes and it'll be great.
I'll provide lemonade and cookies. Later in the afternoon we can dig into other good stuff that grown-ups enjoy more.

Random Acts of Neighborhood Kindness
August 1, 2009
Caroline, Campbell and I went for a walk when it was cloudy yesterday and got caught in a torrential downpour. I pulled our stroller under a tree to help lessen the rain pour until it subsided, and during that time period one neighbor lent (offered to give) me his golf umbrella and another neighbor offered us a ride home. Well the rain finally let up and we walked home using the umbrella a neighbor had lent us.
It is so nice to live in a neighborhood where people help one another.

Dues reminder - online payment system operational
July 21, 2009
A reminder to anyone who has not yet paid their annual DCFW dues. Membership dues help pay for maintenance costs associated with the neighborhood entrance, the production and printing of the DCFW directory and newsletter, the maintenance of the DCFW website, and various neighborhood activities that make DCFW one of the best neighborhoods in Atlanta.
Annual dues are $45 per address, but the a $5 discount ($40 total) has been extended to August 31st due to the on-line payment system problems. Anyone paying before August 31st will only be charged $40. After August 31st, the full cost ($45) will be charged.
Dues may be paid via credit card on-line by clicking on this link and following the instructions. Despite the prompts in the system, there is no need to create an account to pay on-line. However, creating an account should make it easier to use the system in the future.
Dues may also be paid by check using the flier from your mailbox (click here to download and print a pdf version). Make checks payable to DCFW.
Thank you very much for your participation and contribution to the neighborhood.
A Message About the Dunwoody Post Office
July 5, 2009
Citizens of Dunwoody,
If you don't want the Dunwoody Village Post Office to be closed, please read the following from Councilman Denny Shortal and take action now!
Fellow Citizens of Dunwoody ... Below is the name and address plus email address of the gentleman who you should address your letter/email to concerning your opposition to consolidating/closing of the Dunwoody Village Post Office (DVPO). I would urge each of you to follow through on contacting him. In your message have a couple of logical reasons why it is important that the DVPO remains open. Thus, I recommend you plan to get your comments in ASAP but no later than July 20. Please pass this to the widest dissemination of your friends and family. Lets give this our best effort as a community.

Financial Planning for Beyond High School
April 23, 2009
Vanderlyn Parents are invited to attend a discussion on
Financial Planning for Beyond the High School Years
with Mr. Joshua Weber
Senior Vice President, Wealth Advisor
Morgan Stanley
To be held on Monday, April 27, 2009 at 6:00-7:00pm in the Vanderlyn Elementary Media Center.
Even though our elementary school children are not immediately addressing plans for their schooling beyond high school, it makes sense to at least consider and maybe even act on investment options that are available. This can be particularly true in light of the recent economic developments.
Mr. Weber will present and compare investment options that can be available for the parents that want to consider investment options for advanced education.
If you plan to attend, please RSVP to the Vanderlyn Parent Education Committee Chairperson, Dave Fuss, at d_fuss@yahoo.com.

Not only will you be doing some great things for our community, but you’ll meet Brian Roberts, CEO of Comcast – who is coming to Atlanta and will be at the Dunwoody Nature Center to see how we support our community.
Sign up to participate – for every volunteer, Comcast will make a special donation to the Dunwoody Nature Center.

DCFW Yard of the Season Volunteers Wanted
March 4, 2009
We all know how proud most of us (except the DCFW President who begs people to look the other way when they view his front yard) of our yards and the efforts to keep them looking good. The DCFW Board wants you to share that joy with other neighbors.
We are looking for all DCFW yard enthusiasts who would help volunteer and/or chair a DCFW committee to launch a "DCFW Yard of the Season" Contest. We felt like Yard of the Month would be too ambitious and maybe a tad too administrative (thus, less fun) than a contest for a DCFW neighbor's yard winner every 3 months (e.g. a winner for Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter).
We are hoping that any hidden (or blatant) horticulturist fans would pop out of the bushes and share that excitement in this effort. If anyone is interested in chairing the "DCFW Yard of the Season" Committee or wants to be on the voting committee. Please contact Marcos Arias at 770-394-1446.
Spring is around the corner and what a wonderful celebration of the season if we can start it off in the neighborhood with a fun contest like this.

A Message from the Dekalb County CEO
February 20, 2009
Dear Neighbors,
Over the last few weeks, you and I have met at neighborhood gatherings held all across our county. We have discussed how we can make your priorities our county government's priorities and how to reflect those priorities in our annual budget. It is important that we pass a budget that will make wise use of our tax dollars and provide the quality of services that our citizens and stakeholders expect and deserve, in a timely manner with great customer service.
On Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at 10:00 am in the Maloof Auditorium, 1300 Commerce Drive, in downtown Decatur (30030), our Board of Commissioners will vote on priorities and on our annual budget. I would like to invite you to attend and share your thoughts and ideas that you have discussed with me during the neighborhood gatherings across the county.
If you have any questions about the budget and/or about the meeting on February 24th, please call me at 404-371-2881. If you cannot attend the meeting, but would like to acknowledge your support, please email Bettye Davis at bdavis@co.dekalb.ga.us.
Sincerely,
Burrell Ellis

January, 2009
The Whole Board would like to give a sincere thank you to those who held positions last year, and who are stepping down or stepping around to a new position: Chrissa Hammond - our esteemed president of five years (where has the time flown?), and Elizabeth Taptich - our wonderful head of the Sunshine Committee.
Marcos Arias has agreed to take over as President and Tracey Jennings has agreed to take over the Sunshine Position. Chrissa will not go too far since she has volunteered to be on Michelle Spitz's social committee. In addition, Scott Wilkinson has stepped up as webmaster to take our website to the next level (we believe you will be impressed with what he has done). Finally, Tina Wilkinson has volunteered to take over the Directory so please keep the updates coming over to Tina.
We extend our many thanks to the current and new board members for doing what you do. We cannot express enough gratitude to all neighbors for their participation in events, helping out neighbors when needed, and keeping an eye out for each other. Everyone contributes to why we believe this is one of the best neighborhoods of Atlanta.
As always, we can use all the volunteers that we can get for the social committee and the other activities we have planned for 2009. We are so excited about this year.

City of Dunwoody Homestead Exemption and
Property Tax Freeze
January, 2009
If you have already filed for a homestead exemption and/or a property Freeze with DeKalb County and currently have the exemptions in effect, the City will grant the exemptions on your municipal property tax. However, to be abundantly cautious, the City of Dunwoody is asking homeowners to submit an application directly to the City of Dunwoody for the same exemptions and/or property tax freezes you have enjoyed over the years.
The deadline is March 1 for the current calendar year (2009). Applications are accepted year round, but in order to qualify for exemptions this calendar year, you must apply by March 1, 2009.
